Liturgy & Liturgical Law Forum: Mass times

by Catherine Frakas 24 Jan 2001

Mass times QUESTION from Paul Casey January 5, 2002 Dear Mr Slavek,
Does one fulfill their Sunday obligation if they attend Mass on Sunday at any time? While the regular Mass times on Sunday are no later than 6pm at the Churches I attend I have heard of cases where Mass has been celebrated, as part of a religious retreat, after 7pm. What is the latest time a Mass can be celebrated on a Sunday that fulfills ones Sunday obligation?
ANSWER by Mr. Jacob Slavek on January 10, 2002 Dear Mr. Casey,
Anytime is fine for the obligation, as long as it is still Sunday. After midnight would make it Monday, at which time Sunday would have ended and the obligation would not have been fulfilled.
Mr. Slavek
