Profession of Faith QUESTION from Mr. Daniel Lasher June 21, 1999
I recently went on vacation to my parents house. When we went to Sunday mass I noted that the priest did not include the Profession of Faith after the Homily. On the car ride home I brought it up to my mother that I thought it was a standard part of the Mass and that it should always be included. It is the statement of our beliefs as Catholics. She said that since he has been with the parish he has never included the Profession of Faith in Mass. What are your insights to this matter? Can it be excluded? I don't think it can. Dear Dan, The Holy See has made it perfectly clear that the Creed must be recited on Sundays and Solemnities. The recitation of the Creed is a required element of the liturgies of Sundays and Solemnities. Neither priest nor people have the authority to omit it.
