I would suggest you get a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. It will answer these sorts of questions for you very well.
But briefly:
how and why sin?
Sin is caused by man's rebellion against God. Why sin is because God loves us so much that he gave us free will that we not be robots but responsible beings made in His likeness. Thus in free will men choose to sin (rebel against God). category of sins.
There are two categories: Mortal sin and Venial Sin. Mortal sin is serious sin that destroys grace and severes our relationship with God. These sins include things like murder, Kidnapping, rape, fornication, adultery, masturbation, refusing to attend Mass, etc. Mortal Sin MUST be confessed in the Sacrament of Confession. If one dies with unforgiven Mortal sin on their soul they will go to hell. Venial sins are lessor sins such as small lies, stealing a pen from work, etc. Venial sins may be forgiven through an act of contrition and performance of good works.
what effect to mankind?
Sin deprives man of sancifying grace, of fellowship with God, and with proper fellowship with other people. It destroys our capacity to love God, others, and oursevles. the value of salvation.
The value of salavation is the healing of the soul, the being set free from sin and death, and ultimately the greatest value of eternal life with God. Back to Index Page
