Unwanted warnings of the future QUESTION from Richard Moore March 7, 2000 I just discovered your site and I thought that maybe you can help me. Ever since I was a young teenager,(I'm now 28)I have had dreams that actually come true. They don't directly predict the future,(ie..winning lottery numbers etc..)but they due give me warning of future tradgedies in my personal life. When ever The dreams start coming true it always occures just before someone close to me dies. The Dreams are almost normal in that they seem like a common dream when they first occur but one to two weeks later they come true. I have asked others about this and I get many different responses. The two most common are a)that this is a gift from god allowing me to better prepare myself for my coming loss of a loved one.. b) that premonitions are only given by demons and that I will go to hell if I keep having them.. Could you please advise me on what is happening and I can do about it. I don't want the dreams and I never asked for them but I do wish they would stop. The dreams do not give me any specifics about who is going to pass on, and this means that I have to worry about everyone I care about every time it starts. Please help me if you can.
Thanks, Richard Moore
ANSWER by John-Paul Ignatius, O.L.S.M. on March 17, 2000 Dear Mr. Moore:
Believe it or not, from what you are describing, these dreams may be pure coincidence. The Phenomena of Coincidence is too extensive to go into here, though maybe someday I will write an essay on it, but there is such a thing as coincidence and it can involve seemingly fantastic sets of phenomena that the normal person will take as significant, when in fact it is not. The lack of information, such as WHO is going to die, is what reminds me of this.
Another explanation is that the dreams are a result of subtle cues you have picked up from others. For example, a person may be sick and not even know it themselves. Yet their body unconsciously knows it and gives off body cues. You could be picking up body cues and other hints subconsciously that are then translated into dreams.
In any event, it is obvious that you are not wanting these dreams.
I would suggest that you ask God to take these particular kinds of dreams away from you, regardless of their origin. That you don't want them.
At bedtime you might offer this prayer:
In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, strengthened by the intercession of the Immaculate Virgin Mary, Mother of God, of Blessed Michael the Archangel, of the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, and all the Saints and Angels of Heaven, and powerful in the holy authority of the name His Name, I subject my mind and my dreams only to the work of the Holy Spirit. I ask you Lord to bind up all powers of darkness and forbid them to work in my dreams or any part of my subconscious while I sleep. Amen. God Bless, and sweet dreams, we pray.
