Depression-protection prayers QUESTION from C J Allen October 15, 2001 I suffer from bi-polar illness, have done all my life. I was born with a chemical imbalance in my brain. Could I be paying the price of an ancestor's sins? I know of at least two others(my uncle and his son) with the same condition. I am hoping to experience some healing through the prayers you have posted here.
I take medication and see my doctor every two to three months.
Aside from the prayers listed here, and going to the sacraments, is there anything else that I can do to protect myself? Can I be tormented because I have this condition?
I'm especially concerned when the dark feelings seem to overwhelm me. Although I would never want to end my life, I do get thoughts about how useless I am to everyone. If I only could be healed from this illness, I could have a purpose for my life. I have had an abortion many years ago which I confessed on three separate occasions. I also used to study palm reading and tarot cards. And for awhile we had a ouiga board and my mother, brother and sister as well as myself used to experiment with it.
I confessed this to an elderly priest and he just giggled and said ' do you believe in all of that?' Do I need to see another priest that takes occult seriously, or was that confession the end of it?

It is not likely that your medical condition is a result of ancestral sin in a direct way. There may be a herititary factor in your disease however.
It is possible for the enemy to take advantage of people who are vulnerable, but doing what you have outlined -- using the SW prayers, frequent reception of the sacraments, developing devotions -- should protect you under most circumstances.
You may want to pray the prayers found in our catalog that Take back the Ground taken by the devil converning the abortion, and participation in palm reading, tarot card, ouija boards, and the like. When you confessed those things, even to a priest who did not take the occult seriously, the confession is still good.
