protection QUESTION from anthony October 17, 1999 We are having a pastoral gathering at our home and we would like to protect it against evil influences. We have a prayer to take authority over the area which I would pray with my wife while sprinkling Holy Water and possibly Blessed Salt about the meeting room.Would this course of action be prudent.
ANSWER by John-Paul Ignatius on October 21, 1999 Dear Mr. Anthony:
Yes, that would be very appropriate. I have only one concern and that is the wording or your prayer. You didn't provide the prayer in your question so I can check on it. But many of these prayers actual violate current Church restrictions.
As of 1984 we are no longer permitted to use imprecatory language in these prayers.
Here is an example, followed by how to edit it to conform to Church legislation:
IMPRECATORY: We bind (rebuke) (cast out) all the spirits of dissension that may try to interfere with our meeting.
EDITED: Father in heaven, please bind (rebuke) (cast out) all the spirits of dissension that may try to interfere with our meeting.
In other words, remove the I language. You don't want to be commanding the demons directly. Ask God to do it.
God Bless.
